Charities we Support
Rotary in Eastbourne is a vibrant and enthusiastic organisation. Each year, the five clubs in the Borough come together to organise the Tree of Light in time for Christmas.
The special tree is erected outside the Congress Theatre and is covered in a host of white lights each one dedicated to the memory of a loved one. The importance of the tree is the comfort it gives to families and individuals throughout the area.
Lynda Dean from The Rotary Club of Eastbourne AM says “We are delighted to be able to once again support charities from the donations received. This year we have given £2000 to Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and smaller donations of £500 each to CRUSE Bereavement Care, the Salvation Army, YMCA’s Charlie’s Club, and the Guides/Scouts.”
A presentation was held at the Lansdowne Hotel, who have been a long standing supporter of the project which is now in its 12th year.
President Hilary Lewis, said “this is such a great project and the Service to light up the tree is wonderful. Our special thanks go to our supporters who include the Herald, Eastbourne Borough Council, Ratton School Chamber Choir, The Salvation Army Band, PJ Skips for once again donating a lovely tree, Festive Illuminations for the festooning, and our sponsors Sunrise, Pomedoro e Mozzarella, EMSR, Langney Shopping Centre, Eastbourne College, The TEES Group, Brewers, Reid+Dean and WSI Internet Marketing, who give generously to ensure that the project is a real success.”
